Special Version
If you release the buttons, you will not enter Special Version in the game (but any changes made in the "Special" test mode will be applied). To start the game, press start while still holding A+B+C. It will skip the ROM checks, if it worked.
Region Change
You can easily change your board's region temporarily in Special Version. To do this, in the Test Mode screen, simply press left or right. If you press left or right too quickly in repetition, the region switch will stop letting you change the region. If this happens, go into one of the test screens and come back, and it should work again.
Slow/Pause
To pause, press the start button. To slow the game down, hold it.

Stage Practice
You can practice individual stages or bosses, provided you have unlocked the "Only Boss" mode. When you are selecting your course, highlight "ONLY BOSS". Then you can press left and right to change the stage or boss that you will practice. Once you have selected your practice stage/boss, press any button to start. You will first do the stage with rank set to the normal starting rank, then again at rank set to 0 (hardest possible).
